Adventures in JavaScript

By Drew Wehrle

If you haven’t yet checked out the gallery of Google Chrome Experiments, it’s definitely worth spending a few minutes perusing.  Though a quick word of warning… those minutes could turn into hours.  The gallery is a collection of interactive apps, games and the curious projects created by third party programmers using open standards like HTML5 and Canvas.  Most experiments are simple, elegant and curiously addictive, offering a glimpse at just what JavaScript is capable of.

While created to show off Chrome’s enhanced Java engine known as V8, most (but not all) projects should also work in other browsers.  I’m particularly fond of BallDroppings, a game that allows users to create hypnotic symphonies from bouncing balls.

And if you don’t have the time to go play around, this video provides a nice introduction.
